gater is an entitlement management API, helping you easily implement logic for controlling what your users/customers get to access in your app.

What's the difference between gater and billing software?

While many billing tools like to conflate the concept of billing and entitlements, the two things should really be decoupled.

In short, billing controls how much your customers should pay, while entitlement checks what your customers get.

gater is different from billing tools like Stripe Billing, Lago, Recurly, and Chargebee in that we do made a conscious choice to NOT touch billing, but rather focus on making entitlement management easier for you.

gater works well with any payment gateway and billing tool you might be using in your stack already, so you can opt for a plug and play method rather than being locked into one platform that purportedly 'does it all.'
